Sunlit Banksia Bantry Bay
My favourite bushwalk is along the Magazine Track in Killarney Heights. It winds around the Sydney Harbour foreshore, through beautiful stands of banksia. There is one particular tree I keep returning to, both on my walks and in my paintings. Something about its twisted branches, set against the turquoise waters of Bantry Bay, continues to draw me back. Around 11am on a sunny winter’s day in August, the low angle of the sun catches the branches and foliage, creating a beautiful contrast against the clear turquoise water. This was the subject of my first painting, and one I have returned to again and again. This is painting No 4 of my favourite tree. The painting can be viewed at The Melbourne Affordable Art Fair, Groundspace Gallery.
