Flat Rock Beach Banksia

Flat Rock Beach is a small, secluded beach on Middle Harbour in Garigal National Park, accessed from the end of Killarney Drive. A local creek winds through the bush before forming a waterfall that descends around 70 metres between large sandstone boulders, spilling out beside the beach into Middle Harbour.

Along the edge of the waterfall, Banksias grow thickly, at times becoming almost impenetrable. It is a place where water, sandstone and dense native bush come together, and this painting grew from that atmosphere.

If I could create a soundtrack to accompany the painting, it would be the gentle trickle of water over sandstone, layered with birdsong and, in the distance, the faint sound of shallow water lapping against the shore of Flat Rock Beach.
